I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you …

2008Feb11-CMN-GCLO 037The preliminary round of the Great Canadian Laugh Off has come and gone, and unfortunately, I didn’t advance to the next round. The competition was very fierce, and I feel like I had a pretty good set, but I have no issues with the final result. The three people who were selected to advance put on very solid shows, and the young lady chosen as the “winner” of the night, Tara Scott, put on an inspired performance, especially given she is so very new to the local comedy scene.

Stand-Up Against Spinal Cord Injury

2008Jan28-CMN-StandUpAgainstSpinalCordImjury 236Monday Jan 28th, Comedy Monday Night transformed itself into a charity gala, to raise money for the Canadian Paraplegic Association. As opposed to the usual “open mic” format of CMN, this past Monday was an all-star gala starring Kevin Stobo, and featuring Stan Thompson as well as the most illustrious alumni of Comedy Monday Night. Dickens was decked out in dark table cloths and fancy dress, and even though the temperatures outside were well below frigid, a huge crowd turned out for the hot comedy inside. There was one “usual” feature of CMN that survived for the gala, the excellent review by Kerry Raz, and so I won’t bother to re-review the show here … check it out for a very thorough review of the night’s entertainment.

Witness the lineup for December 10th, 2007. Depending on your definitions, there may very well have been a dozen bona-fide headliners in the crowd and on the stage this past Monday.

I’m running out of Dickens references …

… so no silly joke about Charles Dickens this time around. Last night was another session of Comedy Monday Night down at Dickens Pub, and it was a great time. There was a very large crowd turn-out for a Monday night, and an equally large turn-out of comics. It was one of the only times I’ve been down there where there wasn’t enough time to get everyone on stage. In fact, several regulars sat the night out and filled the crowd out including Steph Foley and Karen O’Keefe.
