I’m running out of Dickens references …

… so no silly joke about Charles Dickens this time around. Last night was another session of Comedy Monday Night down at Dickens Pub, and it was a great time. There was a very large crowd turn-out for a Monday night, and an equally large turn-out of comics. It was one of the only times I’ve been down there where there wasn’t enough time to get everyone on stage. In fact, several regulars sat the night out and filled the crowd out including Steph Foley and Karen O’Keefe.

Once again, the show ended off on a very high note last night. Jeff McHenry came down to close the show down, and he did an amazing job. Its not often these days that a comic can reduce me to tears, but Jeff managed that a couple of times last night. If you’ve never had a chance to catch one of his shows, its definitely worth your time. He is one of Canada’s best young comics (he’s recently been nominated for Best Newcomer at the Canadian Comedy Awards) and it was great to have a chance to see a live set from him.

I also wanted send a quick shout out to Kerry, who has been out reviewing CMN for the past few sessions. She’s a very good writer, and does excellent critiques of the shows and material. One of the things I enjoy most about her reviews is that she’s happy to give the good with the bad, and her comments tend to be pretty probing and constructive. If you are looking for objective reviews of the shows (its tough for me to “review” a show that I was a part of) check out Kerry’s MySpace page, and look for the latest CMN review in the top right of the page. She hasn’t posted the review from last night yet, but check out her review of the Nov 5th show, and check back to see last night’s review as well.

Overall, it was a fun night as always. Its always great to see friends again … it had been several weeks since I’d seen Steph, and even longer for few others like Charles Payne and Daryl Makk (both of whom did some great new material last night). Looking forward to my next trip back …
