5415 reasons civilization is doomed

I just thought I’d pop back in on a webpage I posted about a few months ago here, 10000 Reasons Civilization is Doomed, to see how their list was coming along.  They still haven’t quite made it to 10000 yet, but as you can see from my title, they are over half way there now.  My reason (for the record, when i posted the original piece last year, my reason was #2308 … it is now reason #2225 … I assume because some others were removed) is still lodged in there, and while the pace of response may have slowed somewhat recently, there are still over 5000 responses in under a year.  I have no doubt they will eventually reach their goal of 10000, with enough spare to “weed the list” into 10000 solid responses.

Most of the current responses are at least thought provoking in some way.  Though there is some fluff and repetition, its clear that most responses are true attempts by people to express their concerns.  There are a few additions since my last post that I found interesting …

Reason #5332: Borat was the most intelligent and thought provoking movie in the last decade.

Reason #5320: We spend an extraordinary amount of money providing the latest “gee whiz” trappings for education and see no real overall improvements. Instead we just keep lowering the passing grades.

Reason #5292: The regime against filesharing.

Reason #5281: Seen a lot on this page – People who HATE certain trends they don’t get because it makes them feel left out.

Reason #5225: People taking things that aren’t important too seriously, and things that aren’t important, not seriously enough.

Reason #5135: The decline of good cartoons on Saturday mornings.

Reason #4895: Showtime cancelling ‘Dead Like Me’

Reason #4695: A Massachusetts school has banned tag. In our age of politically correct enlightenment, apparently even tag is now a threat. Absurd.

There’s lots more there of interest … and its nice to see them almost halfway to their goal of 10000 reasons … have you added your reason yet?
