Bibi’s box: John Sutherland Productions

Bibi’s box: John Sutherland Productions

I came across this post through Ed Darrell over at Millard Fillmore’s Bathtub, and its such gold I just had to make a note of it.  These films are priceless examples of educational propaganda from the 50’s.

I haven’t watched all of them yet, but the imagery and animation in the couple I have watched is just amazing.  There’s a real feel of “Jetsons” to it, but more sober and down to earth.  Its very ironic how dated the ‘futuristic’ look of some of these is.

In many ways, what I find fascinating about stuff like this is the same thing I find fascinating about the Modern Mechanix blog … looking at how yesterday imagined today.  The motto over at Modern Mechanix is “Yesterday’s tomorrows, today.”  The motto for these Sutherland films could easily be “Yesterdays propaganda about tomorrow, today.”  Truly wonderful stuff 🙂
